A little About ASIST

As the world’s leading suicide intervention workshop, LivingWorks ASIST program is supported by numerous evaluations including independent and peer-reviewed studies. Results demonstrate that ASIST helps participants become more willing, ready and able to intervene when someone is at risk of suicide.

Since its development in 1983, ASIST has received regular updates to reflect improvements in knowledge and practice, and over 1,000,000 people have taken the workshop.
Studies show that the ASIST method helps reduce suicidal feelings in those at risk and is a cost-effective way to help address the problem of suicide.

Goals and Objectives

The workshop process

Who delivers ASIST?

Each ASIST workshop is led by at least two registered LivingWorks trainers. In order to become registered, trainers must complete an intensive course called an ASIST Training for Trainers (T4T), present workshops regularly, and submit continuous quality assurance reports. There are currently more than 6,000 active ASIST trainers around the world, and all trainers receive ongoing support from LivingWorks as they work to build suicide-safer communities.

Our workshops are delivered by Chris Wright (lead trainer at The Wellbeing Guy) and Sarah Jones (Founder, Uplifted Wellbeing) – this collaboration brings together the insight and experience of two professionals
for the benefit of attendees, with over 25 years combined experience.

Chris Wright

ASIST Facilitator

Chris has a wealth of experience in the mental health field having worked between Higher Education support, third sector organisations and private training consultancy for over 10 years both in strategic and practitioner capacities.

During his time as a wellbeing practitioner, Chris worked extensively with adults in Higher Education, supporting them to develop strategies to better manage the impact of conditions such as bipolar, anxiety & depression and psychosis.

Sarah is a highly experienced wellbeing practitioner, having worked in support and wellbeing since 1991 and been employed by Mind for 18 years in a variety of roles.

She recently set up her organisation Uplifted Wellbeing and since this time has been co-delivering with me on the ASIST suicide intervention programmes we run throughout Wales and the South West, as well as supporting our safeTALK workshops as a Community Resource helper.
